Post #1: Having the courage to go after dreams

Having the courage to go after dreams

Your future life starts now!

In life, we all have choices to make: decisions that could take our lives into different directions. While that idea may scare many, I think most of us fail to even get to that point of a purpose-driven life. We get stuck in this period of just existing, not realizing the beautiful gift we have sitting in front us: Choices. We can choose to take over our destiny no matter what our current circumstances. But it's obviously not that easy. If it were, we'd all be doing it. So why aren't we 'grabbing the bull by the horns' when it comes to our lives? Fear? Insufficient funds (both literally and figuratively)?
I think the answer lies in us not appreciating the place in life that we're in, and the blessings that surround our situations no matter what the predicament. There's always a silver lining, yet we fail to acknowledge it. To challenge the process and change your life takes courage, strength and risk. But how can you risk dramatically changing your life, if you can't risk enjoying it in its current state? Some would argue that not enjoying your life is enough to motivate people to make a change. And to that I say why aren't more people doing it? It's like we're scared that if we find satisfaction in our lives, we'll get too comfortable and magically forget about the goals we had. Meanwhile, our goals are staring us in the face, and we're sitting stagnant. I challenge you (and myself) to consciously learn how to love your current life enough to motivate yourself to become greater, turning into everything you ever hoped for, later in life.

Look at the blessings

One way to start enjoying your life now is to appreciate the little things. It is freezing (literally) in Cincinnati, and folks are losing power and getting frost bite. But you know what, most of us have a warm roof over our heads, and loved ones or friends to help us start our cars or open the car door when the ice messes with both.  That in itself is a gift. Not everyone has it.
At work, I saw a video of a man stuck in his car after it flipped upside down. The driver had lost control on some ice that sent his car tumbling. Seeing that man's bloody hand as he tried to get out shook me up. Not only because it was blood, but because I couldn't imagine going through that myself. And trust, that could have been any of us. Thankfully, the driver is expected to be okay.

Comic Relief

At the end of the day, when you take these risks, know that you may fail. Know that you will have critics. But it's about you, and what you want out of your life. Check out this hilarious video of Rihanna. The singer didn't sound too great when she was first starting off in the business, but look at her now: Named an icon at the 2013 American Music Awards. She took a risk to accomplish her dream, and came back on top from the unflattering moments. Okay, I know I sound cheesy, but it's true! If anything, just enjoy the hilarious video compilation! :)
